We're Back

Our first class back at Rosalie Hall was more of a private lesson for one mom and her baby. Our one mom was happy to be singing with us and was eager to tell us that she had been singing Grand Old Duke of York at home with her baby. It was nice to hear that participants from the last session had taken songs they learned and applied them to home life. We spoke about ways to ensure there would be more participants in the weeks to come and I am hopeful this will be the case.

Bang the drum!

We had a mostly returning crowd this week, so we spent some time really getting into the rhythm of things. We learned to find the rhythm and song in each of our names, beating it out on the drums, then took turns passing the big drum around the room as we sang out a silly name game with lots of laughs and shrieks of delight as we started each new round. It was a bang on time!

Big Crowd!

Birkdale is a new location for me, so I wasn't sure what to expect today, but every moment was wonderful! We had 26 kids between the ages of 1 and 6, most of them being around 2. They were probably the most engaged and eager participants I've ever experienced with Rainbow Songs Foundation! We did lots of songs with animals sounds, counting, clapping rhythms and a great jam time (fortunately there were enough instruments for everyone!) A great first day!

Babies on the Bus!

Our first class back at Robertson House for the season was a great success! We had a great turnout and parents and kids were very well engaged. It was great to see some familiar faces as well as some newcomers. One boy who was a regular attendee during the spring session made sure we didn't miss the "babies on the bus go wah wah wah" verse of Wheels On The Bus. As soon as it felt like the song was going to end, he shouted, "what about the babies?!" We happily obliged! Looking forward to a great session!

Making New Friends

It was my very first time at The Redwood, so this week was all about meeting new people and making new friends. If I had been nervous at all, that was quickly put to rest by how enthusiastic everyone was! There was so much singing, dancing, sharing, and helping one another along that I felt right at home as we jammed all together.

Let's Sing Together!

Our final class of the session at Rosalie Hall was great fun! We had a great time learning all the hand signs for The More We Sing Together. The moms and staff picked them up very quickly. It was also awesome to see one of the babies shaking the maracas to the exact tempo of our jam song, The Lion Sleeps Tonight. Great progress!

Frog Fun!

This week's class at Rosalie Hall was a lot of fun. The moms and staff had no trouble singing along with each of the songs, and the babies were all smiles. It was great to see some funny reactions when the wooden Thai Frogs were brought out as the instrument of the week. They sound just like frogs! Looking forward to a grand finale next week! Still Smilin'

Despite a few obstacles getting started, we managed to have a nice class at Rosalie Hall today. We tried out some repeat songs to review last week's repertoire, as well as some new songs about numbers. The moms were all smiling and singing when we revisited Little Green Frog. It was nice to see one older baby crawling his way to a front row seat to view the guitar. It's these kinds of things that remind me that the kids are genuinely taking in the music and exploring their curiosity. Looking forward to next week's class!

A Great Start!

Today's first class at Rosalie Hall was full of singing and smiles! Though moms can sometimes be a bit shy at first to sing along with the instructor, these moms were happy to try it out. It seemed especially encouraging for them to see their babies moving to the sound of the music. As it was an introductory class, I made sure to introduce some Rainbow Songs Foundation classics, including Roly Poly, and I Wake Up My Hands. It was awesome to see that some of the staff and moms already knew the words and were singing along instantly. I'm looking forward to a great mini-session over the next four weeks!
